The Cheltenham Gold Cup is widely considered one of the most unmissable UK steeplechase events. This 3 miles 2½ furlongs grade one jump race, whose history extends over a century, is held at Cheltenham racecourse, features 22 fences and attracts the best of the best of the national hunt scene. It’s held on the final day or the Cheltenham Festival with significant prize money on offer (£360,000+ for the winner). Golden Miller (the only horse to win the race five times), Best Mate (three consecutive wins 2002-2004), Arkle, Kauto Star, Al Boum Photo (2019-20) and several other household name horses claimed their place in history in part due to their Cheltenham Gold Cup wins. The same goes for trainers such as Tom Dreaper and jockeys (Pat Taffe etc).
